CUP: Petty CEO Declines Comment on Merger Report

Petty Enterprises Chief Executive Officer David Zucker said he would not comment on an SI.com report that Petty Enterprises will not return to the track in 2009.

The report said that the organization would merge with Gillett Evernham Motorsports, giving that team a fourth car, the No. 43 that Bobby Labonte has driven for Petty.

“We don’t comment on rumors and speculation. I have no idea where that’s coming from,” Zucker said in a short phone interview. “I really have no idea. If we have something to say, we’ll say it. We have no comment on speculation.”

Petty Enterprises announced earlier this year that it sold a majority interest in the company to Boston Ventures. Zucker was named CEO at that time.
