NASCAR announced Tuesday afternoon that Kurt Busch will not be hit with additional penalties for his incident Sunday during the Good Sam Roadside Assistance 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.
“There will be no additional penalties for Kurt Busch regarding the incident Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway,” read a one-sentence announcement from NASCAR Tuesday.
Busch was parked by NASCAR for the remainder of Sunday’s race after he drove away from safety workers, taking some safety equipment that had been placed atop his car with him, following an accident.
Each week in pre-race drivers meetings, NASCAR stresses proper driver behavior when safety vehicles and safety workers are nearby, and some observers thought that Busch might be penalized beyond the fact that his car was parked for the rest of the race.
NASCAR officials instructed Busch to stop via his team radio, but he later said he could not hear that command because he wasn’t wearing his helmet.
Busch finished 39th. It was his final race for Phoenix Racing, as he will move on to Furniture Row Racing for Saturday’s race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
