Rain at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Friday afternoon forced cancellation of qualifying for the Lenox Industrial Tools 301, race No. 17 of 36 on the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule.

That means the field for Sunday’s race will line up per the NASCAR rulebook, with the top 35 set by owner points. Tony Stewart’s No 14 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet Impala SS will start on the pole, flanked by Jeff Gordon’s Hendrick Motorsports Chevy.

Row 2 will be Jimmie Johnson in a second Hendrick entry and the Penske Championship Racing Dodge Charger of Kurt Busch, with the third row being Roush Fenway Racing’s Carl Edwards in a Ford Fusion and Ryan Newman in the second SHR Chevy.

Failing to make the race because of the rainout were Regan Smith, Dexter Bean and Ted Christopher.
