As rebuilding efforts begin in Haiti, a number of NASCAR-related entities and personalities are stepping in to help the earthquake-battered country.

On Thursday, Michigan International Speedway announced that it would match up to $15,000 in donations through its “MIS Cares for Haiti” program. Race fans may make a donation by visiting the NASCAR Foundation online at https://foundation.nascar.com/NetCommunity/SSLPage.aspx?pid=1222&srcid=1222 from Friday, Jan. 29 through Thursday, Feb. 4. All money collected will be donated to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund for efforts to support Haiti.

“The generosity of race fans will help provide people in Haiti more than immediate relief— they will receive resources, support and training from the American Red Cross that will help them thrive for years to come,” speedway President Roger Curtis said. “I know it’s tough today, but what makes this country so great is its willingness by everyone to help others.”

Indianapolis Motor Speedway is contributing $10,000, as well as auctioning off racing memorabilia on eBay, with proceeds going to the Haiti relief effort. See www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com for full details.

Hendrick Motorsports, Joe Gibbs Racing and Michael Waltrip Racing are among the teams that have donated the use of team airplanes and crews to shuttle supplies either directly to Haiti or to airports in Florida, where those supplies will be transferred to Haitian-bound flights.

Fans can contribute directly to American Red Cross International Response Fund at www.redcross.org or by calling 1-800-REDCROSS. Donors also can text "Haiti" to 90999 on their cell phone to send a $10 donation to support Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.
