A group of NASCAR team owners met at Hendrick Motorsports on Tuesday night to talk about cost-cutting measures and the sport in general.

The meeting was an extension of discussions among NASCAR and team owners on ways to improve the economic stability of the sport as well as to grow the sport’s audience.

“NASCAR is aware and supportive of the meeting among team owners to discuss options for additional cost containment ideas,” NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said in a statement.

“Cost containment is a key issue in our sport. While NASCAR has made significant progress in this area, we are always open to additional ideas. Hopefully, they will find common ground on some ideas to present to NASCAR for consideration.”

NASCAR has implemented several cost-containment policies, including limiting teams to one engine on a race weekend, a choice of two gear ratios, a moratorium on testing at NASCAR tracks and tire leasing.

Most multi-car teams were represented at the meeting.

“We’re all stakeholders in this thing, and we all want to know, ‘What can we do to make this better? How can we save some money and help the show?’" team owner Rick Hendrick told The Associated Press.
