Friday at Pocono Raceway, all four of the Roush Fenway Racing Fords carried a quarter-panel decal that read, “Get back to the track, Jack!” The decal, of course, referred to team co-owner Jack Roush, who remains hospitalized at the Mayo Clinic, recovering from facial injuries suffered in a plane crash at Oshkosh, Wis., Tuesday night.

Roush, who has more than 8,000 hours as a pilot, is a skilled and passionate aviator who also survived a plane crash in Alabama in 2002 that occurred on his 60th birthday. Tuesday’s accident occurred while landing his jet at Wittman Air Field in Oshkosh, where Roush planned to attend an experimental aircraft show. His Beechcraft Premier jet broke in half during the landing, and Roush suffered his injuries as a result.

His drivers and former drivers said Friday that hope to see Roush back soon.

“Jack is a guy who can drive a race car, he can tune the engine, he can build anything, he can help the crew chiefs with setups, so we’re definitely gonna miss him here at the race track,” said Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 99 Roush Fenway Racing Ford. “But I have a feeling as tough as Jack is and as dedicated as he is to all of this and all of us – and all of you guys for that matter, just the whole sport – I think he’ll be back real soon. I don’t see him missing too much time at the race track.”

“We’re thankful that he’s kind of out of the woods now,” said Greg Biffle, who pilots the No. 16 RFR entry. “We know that he’s got some surgeries to probably go through and it’s gonna be a little bit of a road to recovery, but we know he’s gonna be all right and back at it.”

“Jack’s a very, very, very good pilot,” said Jeff Burton, who drove for Roush from 1996 to 2004. “I think it is easy to say ‘Well, he doesn’t fly for an airline so maybe he’s not a great pilot’, but let me tell you, he takes a lot of pride in being a great pilot. I’ve flown with Jack a lot and I’d fly with him again today. It’s sad to see what he is going through. But he is tough and he’ll be OK.”
