NASCAR was honored in three separate categories at the Inaugural Sports Media Marketing Awards, held at the Angel Orensanz Foundation in New York City on Nov. 18.

NASCAR was awarded Gold honors in the category of “Team Promotion (Collegiate and League Sports)” for its “Everything Else Is Just A Game” integrated brand communications campaign. The campaign demonstrates the intensity and danger that drivers and crew members face in the heat of competition along with the awe-inspiring, fun and communal nature of the NASCAR at-track experience.

NASCAR also won top Gold honors in the “Events & Experiential Category” with NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Victory Lap, a parade of the sport’s top drivers down the Las Vegas Strip during the 2009 NASCAR Champion’s Week, including a celebratory burn out by champion Jimmie Johnson. After winning his historic fifth straight NASCAR Sprint Cup title this past Sunday, Johnson will return for more burnouts when NASCAR takes to the streets of Las Vegas for the next NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Victory Lap on Dec. 2.

NASCAR took home Silver honors in “Brand Integrated Marketing” for NASCARPartners.com, an online B2B portal serving as a central point for partners of the sport to find exclusive content, assets and information. The site has continuously evolved based on user input to create an exclusive and unique value-added component for NASCAR’s official partners.

“It’s an honor to have received recognition for programs designed to create an exciting and consistent presentation of our sport married to the excitement associated with NASCAR racing,” said Steve Phelps, Chief Marketing Officer, NASCAR. “We are very proud of the work being done by NASCAR’s brand and consumer marketing professionals along with our creative agencies, Jump Company and Lead Dog Marketing Group.”

Several NASCAR partners were also recognized for their NASCAR programs:

• Sprint and Goodby, Silverstein & Partners received top honors in both Interactive Consumer Marketing and Interactive Brand/Sponsor Integration for the Sprint NASCAR Widget site.

• Turner Sports was awarded Gold honors for Interactive Consumer Marketing/Best Use of Digital Non-Linear marketing for NASCAR.COM Duel RaceBuddy, and took home a Silver award for “Affiliate and Trade Marketing/Advertising” for NASCAR.COM RaceBuddy 3D – Daytona.

• DIRECTV, Inc. won Silver honors for Consumer Marketing – Print Poster, Outdoor and Out of Home in the Linear/Long Form/Sports News & Analysis Programming Promotion for NASCAR HotPass Bookmark.
