NASCAR IN 30 SECONDS ON SPEED TO CELEBRATE SPORT'S MOST MEMORABLE COMMERCIALS

NASCAR Greats Richard Petty, Bobby Allison, Dale Earnhardt and Others Featured in Previously Unseen Footage

As NASCAR drivers prepare to race the high banks of Daytona International Speedway and also to launch their new sponsor commercials, SPEED will air NASCAR in 30 Seconds, a special program celebrating the sport's most memorable TV ads and looking ahead to the drivers’ new 2008 campaigns. The one-hour special premieres on Feb. 7 at 9 p.m. EST, and will be re-broadcast several times during Speedweeks leading into the Daytona 500.

NASCAR in 30 Seconds, hosted by Rutledge Wood, will revisit classic NASCAR TV ads of yesteryear, show previously unseen bloopers and behind-the-scenes footage from ad shoots, and preview several NASCAR and sponsor spots that will air on the Fox telecast of the 2008 Daytona 500 (Feb. 17, 2 p.m.) NASCAR in 30 Seconds is produced by NASCAR Media Group.

Viewers will be taken behind the scenes of NASCAR driver ad shoots for big brands like Gillette, Sprint, Sunoco, The Home Depot, and Toyota. They’ll see NASCAR legends such as Richard Petty and Bobby Allison flubbing lines, and Dale Earnhardt and his son Dale Earnhardt Jr. appearing together in a spot. During one of many humorous segments, Kenny Wallace critiques a NASCAR commercial he shot 25 years ago. Drivers-turned-pitchmen Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kurt Busch, Kasey Kahne, Mark Martin, and David Reutimann also discuss what it’s like to step out of the race car and in front of the camera.

The show culminates with an in-depth behind-the-scenes peak at the making of Tony Stewart’s new commercial for Toyota, which is the presenting sponsor of the program.

Tying to NASCAR in 30 Seconds, on Sunday, Feb. 17, the day of the 50th Running of the Daytona 500, NASCAR.COM will post a
showcase of the TV ads debuting on the race telecast. Fans watching the SPEED show will be encouraged to visit NASCAR.COM to download and vote for their favorite new NASCAR commercial.

“NASCAR fans should really get a kick out of this show,” said Steve Craddock, SPEED SVP of Programming. “Fans get to see Kenny Wallace when he was just getting into NASCAR and a much younger Darrell Waltrip. They’ll also see legends like Richard Petty, Bobby Allison, and the late Dale Earnhardt make their pitches during a different time in history. Not to mention all the great ‘behind the scenes’ footage you will see during the show. NASCAR in 30 Seconds will appeal to fans of every generation.”

“This is such a cool show,” said Wood, host of SPEED Road Tour Challenge. “To see some of these guys when they were young is so cool. But people are really going to like the backstage stuff from Tony’s new Toyota commercial as well.”

Wood was born in Birmingham, AL, and graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Marketing. He has appeared on air and produced shows for Country Music Television (CMT), and Clear Channel Communications.
