NASCAR and Twitter, the increasingly influential social media network that offers another connection between drivers and fans, announced Friday the first partnership between Twitter and a major sports organization.

As part of the arrangement, Twitter will create a NASCAR page beginning June 10 with the season’s first Pocono Raceway event. The page will “collect” tweets from drivers, other competitors, fans, NASCAR officials and news media members within the NASCAR world.

The content that appears on the NASCAR page will be determined by an editorial team, Twitter official Omid Ashtari said. He said both positive and negative comments will be included.

Twitter is encouraging fans to use and follow the hashtag #NASCAR for easier consolidation of NASCAR-related tweets.

Many NASCAR drivers, including Brad Keselowski, Mark Martin, Jimmie Johnson, Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth, tweet regularly. Keselowski became Twitter-famous when he tweeted during red-flag conditions that delayed February’s Daytona 500.

The primary goal of the new NASCAR-Twitter partnership, officials said, is to provide a platform for fans to gather and share information during races.
