WHAT OFF WEEK?
This weekend represents the final off week in the grueling NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule, which includes a dizzying 38 races in 41 weeks. So what are the drivers doing with their time off? Some will vacation, of course, but a lot will run elsewhere this weekend. Six drivers are scheduled to race in Saturday night’s Missouri-Illinois Dodge Dealers 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill.

The six Buschwhackers are: reigning series champion Carl Edwards, points leader Clint Bowyer, David Ragan, David Reutimann, Reed Sorenson and Jamie McMurray. NASCAR Sprint Cup points leader Kyle Busch, meanwhile, will be at Kentucky Motor Speedway, where he’ll compete in Saturday night’s Built
Ford Tough 225 Presented by the Greater Cincinnati Ford Dealers NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. He’ll also run a super late model race at Iowa Speedway on Sunday.

Kevin Harvick will run a late model race Sunday at Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine, while Matt Kenseth will join Bowyer, Ken Schrader and Sterling Marlin for a late model race at Eagle Raceway, near Lincoln, Neb., on Thursday, and then run at Iowa Speedway on Saturday and Sunday.

“It’s not exhausting,” said Busch of his active schedule. “I am a racer and I enjoy doing it. We have a lot of fun in the late models and having the weekend off in the Cup Series just gives us an opportunity to go to a couple local tracks and have some fun.”
