Two-time Daytona 500 winner Michael Waltrip is looking to add another title to his list of accomplishments – that of stand-up comedian.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series owner/driver is scheduled to debut his Michael Waltrip’s Comedy Garage Jan. 21 at the Ameristar Casino in Kansas City, Mo., with additional stops slated for the Colosseum at Caesars Windsor in Ontario, Canada (Jan. 22) and the Mirage in Las Vegas (March 4-5).

Comedians Henry Cho and John Reep headline the shows, which will include a routine by Waltrip.

“This is something totally different from what I am used to,” Waltrip said. “In a race car I am in my element and I’m comfortable. When you give me a microphone and tell me I have to stand up in front of a lot of people and be funny on purpose, that makes me nervous. I’m funny accidentally. The definition of stand-up comedy is being funny on purpose.

“It’s a great challenge and something that is a lot of fun. The people that do it for a living sure have my respect. I hope everyone will come out and give us a chance to entertain them.”

The stand-up tour is just one of several items on his agenda in the coming weeks. Waltrip, whose Michael Waltrip Racing organization fields Sprint Cup teams for drivers David Reutimann and Martin Truex Jr., is also scheduled to compete in the Dubai 24 Hours sports car race with co-owner Rob Kauffman Jan. 13-15. In addition, his book, “In the Blink of an Eye,” which marks the 10-year anniversary of his 2001 Daytona 500 win, is scheduled for a Feb. 1 release.
