After two days of rain, Sprint Cup drivers finally got on track for practice at Martinsville Speedway Saturday afternoon, and it got interesting.

Late in the session, Greg Biffle and Kevin Harvick made contact, and that encounter caused some emotional sparks, both on track and in the garage area. After completing the run, Biffle marched to Harvick’s garage stall, and the two drivers engaged in an edgy discussion as crew members and NASCAR officials encircled them.

Harvick and Biffle have somewhat of a history, but Saturday’s discussion apparently ended well. Harvick’s car had minor rear-end damage.

Meanwhile, at the front of the speed charts, Michael McDowell had the session’s best run, posting a speed of 95.893 miles per hour. He edged Clint Bowyer, who ran 95.782.

Completing the top five were Jimmie Johnson, Jamie McMurray and Scott Speed.

Point leader Carl Edwards was 29th fastest. His teammate (and No. 2 in points) Matt Kenseth was 24th.

Because of rain Friday and Saturday morning, the Saturday mid-day session gave Cup drivers their only practice of the weekend.
