Ron Dennis, the executive chairman of McLaren Automotive and former team boss of the McLaren-Mercedes Formula One team, is hoping one of his companies becomes the fuel injection supplier for NASCAR.

Dennis is at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend, meeting with NASCAR officials and team owners, pitching his McLaren Electronics as the vendor of choice if and when NASCAR converts from carburetors to fuel injection. McLaren Electronics already supplies similar systems used by all teams in F1 and the IZOD IndyCar Series.

NASCAR Managing Director of Corporate Communications Ramsey Poston said Saturday that the sanctioning body is evaluating its options for fuel injection and has made no decision yet as to when it when it will be implemented.

Dennis said he was impressed by what he’s seen of NASCAR so far.

“It’s more sophisticated than I ever expected it to be,” said Dennis. “The cars are beautifully prepared. ... There’s a strong tradition in NASCAR that you have to respect.”
