Suspended NASCAR driver and former team owner Jeremy Mayfield says that his Mayfield Motorsports Inc. shouldn’t owe Triad Racing Technologies and BDR Acquisitions for parts it received at the start of the 2009 season because its agreement was to purchase six complete race cars with spare parts, nuts and other items for a previously determined amount.

Triad Racing Technologies and BDR Acquisitions (both operated by Mike Held) sued Mayfield Motorsports Inc. in June for $79,763.95 for parts and paint work and $6,540.60 for chassis work. Mayfield, in court documents filed Oct. 12 in North Carolina Superior Court in Charlotte, states that the team received an invoice for extra parts that he thought were to be included in the original price. Unable to resolve the issue, he returned the parts, which he said was acceptable to Triad and BDR Acquisitions.

He also says in the filing that Triad had agreed to accept $3,000 as a settlement for paint work
and that “Mayfield Motorsports, Inc. denies that the values in the complaint are accurate or that they are the responsibility of Mayfield Motorsports Inc.”

Mayfield, who sold the assets of his team to Carter-Simo Racing co-owner John Carter in July, did not use an attorney to file the response but instead filed a notarized response signed by him and his wife, Shana.

Mayfield, who is suing NASCAR to get his suspension for what the sanctioning body says was a failed drug test for methamphetamines, also has been sued by Arrington Manufacturing over $71,000 in engine bills.
