Stuck in the middle of controversy over turning a $2,000 custom-painted Gibson Les Paul into toothpicks, Kyle Busch is going back to what he knows best this weekend: Racing.

Busch will compete in all three of NASCAR’s top series this weekend, racing in the Michigan 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series 200 Saturday afternoon at Michigan International Speedway, before flying to Sparta, Ky., for the Meijer 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Kentucky Speedway on Saturday night. Sunday, he’ll be back at MIS for the LifeLock 400 Sprint Cup race.

Racing, of course, is what Busch enjoys most. He’d infinitely rather be in the cockpit of a car or truck than answering more questions about why he smashed the Sam Bass-painted guitar/trophy following his victory in Saturday night’s Nationwide race at Nashville Superspeedway.

There will be plenty to keep Busch busy this weekend, especially in the Irish Hills of Michigan, a place where Busch has had some success. He finished second here last August behind Carl Edwards in the second MIS Cup race and won a Nationwide race here in 2004. Like many of his peers, he enjoys the fact that the 2-mile track is one of the widest on the circuit, with multiple racing grooves.

“It’s just a fun place to race,” said Busch, who ranks ninth in NASCAR Sprint Cup points. “It’s wide-open racing and you can run from top to bottom. The biggest thing is just trying to get grip there. Some guys are able to get it, other guys can’t. You can get it for maybe five laps and then you’re just out to lunch. The biggest thing is just trying to make your car comfortable and make it last throughout a whole tire run and, of course, make it fast, too.”
