CUP: Keyed-Up To Get ECR Engines
Casey Mears has failed to qualify for a NASCAR Sprint Cup race this season...

After driver Casey Mears failed to qualify for the first four races of the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup season, Keyed-Up Motorsports has changed engine suppliers from Pro Motors to Earnhardt-Childress Racing engines.

The first-year team is hoping ECR power will allow Mears to start getting the No. 90 Chevrolet Impala SS into races after a disappointing start to the year.

ECR develops and builds engines for its Chevrolet NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series teams and leases engines for teams in NASCAR’s top three series.

“This is a huge step in the right direction to be competitive,” Mears said in a statement issued by the tea. “We still have a lot of short-term work to do to accomplish our goals, but this gives us a more of an advantage to making races.”

“We ran an ECR engine in the Gatorade Duel race back in February and we were very competitive amongst the multi-car teams,” said Keyed-Up’s owner, Raymond Key. “We utilized another company’s engines following Daytona, and after failing to make the last three races, we decided to make some serious adjustments. Our engine program was high on our list. … With an ECR engine in the car, we feel our horsepower struggles are over and we a better opportunity to qualify for races.”
