If anyone still thinks Matt Kenseth's victory in last year's rain-shortened Daytona 500 was a fluke, the 2003 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion would like to disabuse them of that notion.

Kenseth was the fastest of 54 cars setting times for Wednesday's first of two rounds of Daytona 500 practice. The Wisconsin native had a best lap of 194.254 miles per hour at the 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway.

Behind Kenseth's Roush Fenway Racing Ford Fusion came the Toyotas of Kyle Busch, 194.221 mph in the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing entry, and Brian Vickers, who ran 194.145 mph in his Red Bull Racing No. 83 Camry.

Completing the top five were Jeff Burton in a Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet Impala SS and Carl Edwards in a second Roush Fenway Ford.

The most serious incident of the session came when Clint Bowyer blew a tire in Turn 2, collecting David Reutimann, who was hit by Derrike Cope. Both Bowyer and Reutimann were forced to go backup cars.
