Charlotte Motor Speedway has always been one of Kasey Kahne's favorite tracks. And this week, the driver of the No. 9 Richard Petty Motorsports Ford will do a little extra running around.

On Saturday night, Kahne will go for his fourth points-race victory at the 1.5-mile quad-oval track, a place where he has also won the Sprint All-Star Race.

And on Sunday morning, he will participate in a 5k fun run that his Kasey Kahne Foundation is hosting in Uptown Charlotte. All in all, it should be a busy few days for the Enumclaw, Wash., native.

“I always like Charlotte, especially the racing, because it’s a good track for us,” said Kahne, who is in his final season with RPM before moving to Red Bull Racing next year and Hendrick Motorsports in 2012. “And then just being close to home and being able to do some things whether it’s with the fan club, sponsor stuff or with our foundation like this year with our 5K on Sunday morning, I think all of that stuff is kind of exciting and gives you something to look forward to.”

Sunday’s 5K event is being dubbed the “Five Kahne.” It starts at 8 a.m. at Bank of America Stadium and concludes at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, where Kahne will host a fan Q&A at 9:30 a.m.

“With the Ronald McDonald House, the Hall of Fame, and Bank of America being in downtown Charlotte, it was a good fit for a lot of the partners we’ve had the last few years, so it all came together and I’m looking forward to it,” Kahne said of the fun run. “Budweiser is going to be a part of it, too, so it should be exciting and hopefully a lot of people will come and sign up. It’s gonna be a good time.”

Kahne shouldn’t have any trouble in the foot race, though he won’t be racing to win there.

“I like running and staying in shape, and I would say I probably run about 10-12 miles a week,” said Kahne. “I’ll run three or four miles at a time, and it just depends on the day and what I have scheduled.”

On track at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Saturday night, well, that will be a whole lot more serious for Kahne.

“The cars have changed a lot with the setups as far as what we do and what other teams do, so we just need to keep working hard at that,” said Kahne. “If we hit on it, we’ll be up front this week. That’s just one of our tracks that we’re good at.”
