Kasey Kahne is always a force to be reckoned with at Charlotte Motor Speedway and Friday was no exception, as Kahne topped the first of two practice rounds for tomorrow’s Bank of America 500.

Kahne, who has won three points races and one Sprint All-Star Race at CMS, led the 45-minuter practice round with a best lap of 186.104 miles per hour in his No. 9 Richard Petty Motorsports Ford.

Second-fast was the No. 00 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota driven by David Reutimann, who ran 185.382 mph. Then it was the No. 16 Roush Fenway Racing Ford of Greg Biffle at 185.052 mph. Completing the top five were Kurt Busch, who swept the two spring races here, and Martin Truex Jr.

The second five was led by Brad Keselowski, then AJ Allmendinger, Ryan Newman, Joey Logano and David Ragan. Points leader Jimmie Johnson was 15th.

The final Happy Hour round of Cup practice runs from 6:20-7:20 p.m.
