“I can’t believe Jimmie did it,” said Carl Edwards , who finished second to Johnson last year. “It’s unreal. I really just believed that something would happen and Mark would be able to get him just because it’s so amazing the luck that they’ve had. I know it’s not all luck, but there’s luck that goes with it and they’ve had amazing performance and amazing luck and my hat’s off to them.”

As for his part, Johnson said the team intends to keep it up.

“The cool thing is we’re not done yet,” Johnson said. “We have a lot of racing left ahead of us.”

Asked where he ranks, Johnson said he hasn’t decided yet.

“When you look at the stats, it is definitely towards the top and that is something I am very proud of,” Johnson said. “I have a lot of racing ahead of me so it is tough to really say at this point. We've have covered some territory in a short period of time and I feel the years ahead of us we can even get higher in the record books.”

Likewise, crew chief Knaus said the moment was special.

“That is awesome. That is just absolutely incredible,” said Knaus. “I think that has got to say how impressive this Lowe's team is and what a great, fantastic driver Jimmie Johnson is. Jimmie is an incredible talent. He is the most underrated driver in this garage from a perspective of media recognition. I mean that guy can do things with a race car that I've never seen done before. I hope this proves this to everybody.”
