Jimmie Johnson will look to conjure up some of his mojo this Sunday at Martinsville Speedway, where the three-time defending NASCAR Sprint Cup champion has won four of the last five races and five overall.

In fact, Johnson has finished ninth or better at Martinsville 13 consecutive times, dating back to his rookie season of 2002. Johnson, who so far is winless on the 2009 season, will have plenty of competition this weekend. His Hendrick Motorsports teammates Jeff Gordon and Mark Martin have combined for 9 victories on the 0.526-mile paperclip.

Of course, someone like defending race champion and Virginia native Denny Hamlin could easily derail the Hendrick armada. So, too, could two-time Martinsville winner Tony Stewart.

A total of 48 cars are entered in Sunday’s Goody’s Fast Pain Relief 500, which means 13 cars will attempt to qualify for the final eight spots and five cars will miss the show. This is the first race of the year where the top 35 cars in 2009 owner points are locked into the field.
