It should come as a complete surprise to no one that Jimmie Johnson heads to Texas Motor Speedway with the best statistical record of any of the 12 drivers in the Chase For The Sprint Cup.

Of the 48 drivers entered in Sunday’s Dickies 500, just two have single-digit average finishes at the fast, 1.5-mile oval: Johnson at 8.500, and Matt Kenseth at 9.714. In fact, in his last six Texas starts, Johnson has one victory and three runner-up finishes.

At this point, a record fourth consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup championship is a mere formality for Johnson, who leads Hendrick Motorsports teammates Mark Martin by 184 points and Jeff Gordon by 192 points.

Here’s how the top 12 drivers stack up statistically heading into Texas:

1. Jimmie Johnson, No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet
2009 Rundown:

• Six wins, 14 top fives, 22 top 10s; three poles
• Average finish of 10.8
• Led 27 races for 1,972 laps
Texas Motor Speedway outlook:
• One win, six top fives, nine top 10s
• Average finish of 8.5 in 12 races

2. Mark Martin, No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet
2009 Rundown:

• Five wins, 12 top fives, 19 top 10s; seven
poles
• Average finish of 14.3
• Led 23 races for 805 laps
Texas Motor Speedway outlook:
• One win, five top fives, nine top 10s
• Average finish of 13.8 in 17 races

3. Jeff Gordon, No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet
2009 Rundown:

• One win, 16 top fives, 23 top 10s
• Average finish of 10.2
• Led 18 races for 816 laps
Texas Motor Speedway outlook:
• One win, seven top fives, nine top 10s; one pole
