It showed in the first of Saturday's two scheduled rounds of NASCAR Sprint Cup practice in preparation for the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500.

Gordon (167.942 mph), led the way in his No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, followed by Johnson in the No. 48 Hendrick Chevy at 167.414 mph.

Next in line were Richard Childress Racing teammates Kevin Harvick and Jeff Burton, followed by Roush Fenway Racing's Greg Biffle.

RCR's Clint Bowyer, Penske Racing's Kurt Busch, Hendrick's Mark Martin, Richard Petty Motorsports' AJ Allmendinger and Michael Waltrip Racing's Martin Truex Jr. filled out the top 10.

Gordon shared seat time in the session with occasional Hendrick fill-in driver Aric Almirola, who is on standby this weekend in case Gordon has to leave Pocono quickly for the birth of his second child.

Almirola had a scare in the practice, however, when the back end of the No. 24 car broke loose for a brief moment before continuing on.

The final one-hour "Happy Hour" practice for the Sprint Cup Series is scheduled for 11:20 a.m. ET Saturday.
