Wait a minute – there’s not a Sprint Cup race to remote-control over to this weekend?

No, it’s the first off weekend of the season for the Cup traveling circus.

That’s OK. There’s almost always a Nationwide race on Cup off weekends, right? Well, maybe. But not this weekend.

So, we’ll flip over to the trucks, then.

Uh, no. No Truck race, either.

This is that oddest of weekends – one that is void of Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck races.

The engines are silent.

“We wanted a break in the season, and it just worked out that this weekend was it,” said NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter. He said there was no grand design to work out the schedule so that all three series are idle.

There are only four “off” weekends in the Sprint Cup schedule this year. After Sunday, the Cup schedule has quiet weekends April 4, July 17 and Aug. 29.

The Nationwide Series is scheduled to race April 3 (Nashville), July 17 (Madison, Ill.) and Aug. 29 (Montreal) when the Cup cars are idle.

The Truck series also will race in Nashville (April 2) and in Madison (July 16) and on the Aug. 29 weekend (Aug. 27) in Chicago.
