The more things change, the more they remain the same. That’s as true at Bristol Motor Speedway as it is anywhere else.

Four-time defending NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson was the fastest of 43 drivers in the first of two rounds of practice Saturday at Bristol Motor Speedway, where tomorrow the Food City 500 will be contested.

And Johnson, who had a fast lap of 122.725 miles had plenty of company from his Hendrick Motorsports teammates. Juan Pablo Montoya was second-fastest at 122.139 mph in an Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates Chevrolet, but right behind him were the Hendrick Chevs of Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Pole-sitter Joey Logano completed the top five.

The second five was Kasey Kahne, Jamie McMurray, Mark Martin, Ryan Newman and AJ Allmendinger. The final Happy Hour round begins at 12:20 p.m. ET and will be televised on SPEED at 1pm.
