Denny Hamlin won the season-ending Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, but it was Jimmie Johnson who was the man of the evening as he sewed up his record fourth consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup championship.

Hamlin cruised to an easy victory in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, with Jeff Burton second in a Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, followed by Kevin Harvick in a second RCR Chevy and the Penske Racing Dodge Charger of Kurt Busch.

Johnson, meanwhile, drove to fifth-place finish, seven spots ahead of his teammate and second-place points man Mark Martin.

Jeff Gordon's sixth-place finish gave Rick Hendrick the first sweep of the top three points positions for one team owner, another milestone for the season’s dominant team.

Johnson started from the pole, flanked by the Red Bull Toyota of Scott Speed. Johnson easily led the first lap, picking up 5 bonus points, which meant he only needed to finish 27th to sew up the title.

Martin settled into third behind Johnson and Marcos Ambrose, as Speed fell back.

Ambrose went high to take the lead for the first time on Lap 10. Martin, meanwhile, slid to fifth.

But Johnson was back out front on Lap 14, as Ambrose had a tire going down and was forced to pit.

On Lap 33, Tony Stewart went to the front for the first time, with Kevin Harvick third and Martin fourth.

At the Lap 50 mark, Stewart led Johnson by 2.617 seconds, with Clint Bowyer third, followed by Harvick and Ryan Newman. Green-flag pit stops followed on Lap 51, the field beginning to peel off for fuel and tires.
