Wednesday is the day that the first class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame will be voted on.

NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France today will announce the first five inductees into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, which will open in May 2010 in Charlotte. SPEED will televise France’s announcement live at 4 p.m. ET, and it will be streamed on SPEEDtv.com.

The press conference will take place at the Charlotte Convention Center, adjacent to the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

SPEED will also devote a considerable amount of the day’s programming to the NASCAR Hall of Fame:

• John Roberts hosts “Building The NASCAR Hall of Fame” at 10 a.m. ET.

• “NASCAR Hall of Fame Voting” follows at 11 a.m. with Steve Byrnes, Jeff Hammond and Larry McReynolds in the SPEED studios in Charlotte and Darrell Waltrip and Kyle Petty at the Charlotte Convention Center.

• At 3 p.m., SPEED will air a live NASCAR Hall of Fame preview, with Mike Joy, Ken Squier, Wendy Venturini and Randy Pemberton joining the SPEED coverage team.

• The press conference follows live at 4 p.m.

• At 7 p.m., “NASCAR Race Hub” will feature several special guests appearing with Krista Voda and Byrnes.

The nominees were selected by a 21-person nominating committee consisting of representatives from NASCAR, the NASCAR Hall of Fame and track owners from both major facilities and historic short tracks.

The HOF’s first inductees will be determined by the voting panel, which has 50 members – the entire nominating committee, 14 media members, four manufacturer representatives, nine retired competitors (drivers, owners, crew chiefs – three each) and two recognized industry leaders. In addition, the fan vote will result in the voting panel’s 51st and final ballot.

The inaugural class will be inducted in a ceremony to be held on May 23, 2010 at the Hall.
