Greg Biffle underlined hopes that he can make gains in the Chase for the Sprint Cup Saturday morning by leading the first of two Saturday practices for Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway.

Biffle posted a fast lap of 186.156 miles per hour late in the 50-minute session.

Biffle trails point leader Brad Keselowski by 43 points entering Sunday’s race, the sixth in the Chase.

Following Biffle in the top five in the morning practice were Aric Almirola, Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth and Martin Truex Jr.

In the second five were Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Joey Logano, AJ Allmendinger and Mark Martin.

Keselowski was 16th on the speed chart. Jimmie Johnson, second in points, was 21st, and Denny Hamlin, third in points, was 12th.

The slowest Chase competitor was Kevin Harvick at 26th.

Sprint Cup Happy Hour practice is scheduled at 1:50 p.m. (ET) today.
