CUP: Biffle Still Red Hot

Bank of America 500 pole-sitter Greg Biffle resumed Friday afternoon where he left off Thursday night, leading the first of the day’s two practice sessions at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Biffle ran a best lap of 187.065 miles per hour in his No. 16 Ford, tops among the 43 cars that practiced in the 55-minute session. Thursday night in qualifying, Biffle set a new track record of 193.708 mph.

Second fast in Friday’s practice was the No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet of Kasey Kahne, who ran 186.593 mph. He was followed by the No. 29 Richard Childress Racing Chevy driven by Kevin Harvick. His best lap was 186.574 mph.

Jimmie Johnson and Mark Martin completed the top five.

The second five consisted of Martin Truex Jr., Brad Keselowski, Regan Smith (subbing for Dale Earnhardt Jr.), Ryan Newman and Jeff Gordon.

All of the 12 Chase cars were 17th or better in this session.

The final Happy Hour round of practice is from 5:50-6:50 p.m. ET.
