Greg Biffle rang up a very big number – 191.313 miles per hour – Friday in leading the first practice session for Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 Sprint Cup race at Kansas Speedway.
The repaved surface produced a remarkably fast session. All 46 drivers participating in the 90-minute session easily broke Matt Kenseth’s track qualifying record of 180.856.
Nine drivers ran over 190 miles per hour.
Following Biffle in the top five were Joey Logano, Aric Almirola, Carl Edwards and Kasey Kahne. In the second five were Jimmie Johnson, Regan Smith, Kenseth, AJ Allmendinger and Tony Stewart. Smith is substituting for Dale Earnhardt Jr. for the second straight week.
Chase leader Brad Keselowski was 19th.
Jeff Gordon, the slowest of the Chase drivers, was 27th.
Sprint Cup qualifying is scheduled at 5:10 p.m. (ET) today.
