Greg Biffle broke a 64-race losing streak with an emotional victory in Sunday’s Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway.

Biffle used a series of two-tire pit stops to gain track position, leading the final 20 laps of the race to win for the first time since Dover International Speedway in 2008. More importantly, perhaps, the victory came five days after team co-owner Jack Roush was seriously injured in an airplane crash in Wisconsin.

“This one’s for Jack,” Biffle said in victory lane. “We know he’s watching.”

Biffle drove to victory in the same No. 16 Ford Fusion he drove to a third-place finish last week at Indianapolis.

“This is big,” said Biffle, who earned the first victory for Ford Motor Co. in 23 races dating back to Talladega last fall. “We know we have a great team. I know I can do it behind the wheel. We proved it today.”

Following Biffle to the checkered flag were Tony Stewart’s No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet, and Biffle’s teammate, Carl Edwards in the No. 99 RFR Ford. NASCAR Sprint Cup points leader Kevin Harvick was fourth, followed by Denny Hamlin.

The second five was Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, Jeff Burton, Martin Truex Jr. and Jimmie Johnson.

The race was a long and taxing one.

After a 35-minute rain delay at the start, pole-sitter Stewart jumped out easily at the drop of the green flag, with Gordon moving into second place and then into the lead on Lap 3. Johnson climbed to second on Lap 6, making it a Hendrick 1-2 at that point.

Following a competition caution on Lap 17, Biffle took two tires and passed Gordon on the restart, pulling Johnson into second with him. Biffle was out front for just two laps before Johnson took the point, Gordon quickly claiming second.

At the halfway point of the race, Johnson was 5.753 seconds ahead of Gordon, the two having led all but six of the first 100 laps.
