Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch stunned the field at Talladega Superspeedway Friday afternoon, when they both shattered the 200 mile-per-hour barrier in practice for Sunday's Amp Energy Juice 500.

With all the cars circulating around the 2.66-mile track in large drafting packs times predictably were fast, no one more so than the Gibbs boys, with Hamlin running 201.664 miles per hour to 201.109 mph for Busch, the speeds no doubt achieved in tandem.

Third fast was last year’s race winner, Jamie McMurray, who ran 197.684 mph in his Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates Chevrolet. Hendrick Motorsports teammates Jeff Gordon, 197.633 mph, and Jimmie Johnson, 196.338 mph.

The second five consisted of Marcos Ambrose, Kasey Kahne, Aric Almirola, Mark Martin and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

The final Happy Hour round of practice begins at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be televised live on SPEED, as will qualifying, which takes place at 12:15 p.m. ET Saturday.
