With NASCAR’s 26-race regular season now halfway complete, seven of the top 12 drivers in the Sprint Cup standing already have won points races. The other five — Dale Earnhardt Jr., Greg Biffle, Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart — will be looking to get into the win column Sunday at Pocono Raceway.
All five have been close to victory lane already. In fact, each of the five has been runner-up in at least one Cup points race and Biffle and Gordon have been especially hot of late, with Biffle finishing third once and second twice in the last three races and Gordon earning a streak of three consecutive top-five finishes in the last three points races.

But Sunday’s Pocono 500 will be the first Cup race at the track that will be run with NASCAR’s new-generation race car. And Gordon was anything but happy with how his car felt during a recent NASCAR test at the track. “I felt like a rookie during the test,” Gordon said. “The car was just not doing what I wanted it to do.”
However, in that test, Earnhardt was extremely fast, topping the speed charts in one of the sessions and finishing second in another. But he found the track bumpy and not to his liking. That said, Earnhardt finished second in the most recent race at the 2.5-mile Pennsylvania oval, which is another factor weighing in for his chances.
