Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, which was being courted by Ford, has decided to remain a Chevrolet team.

Employees were informed of the decision during a victory luncheon Wednesday for Jamie McMurray’s win at Charlotte last month, team officials confirmed.

EGR had switched from Dodge to Chevrolet in 2009, the first year following a merger of the Cup programs of Chip Ganassi Racing and Dale Earnhardt Inc., which gave the team access to Earnhardt Childress Racing engines.

The team was courted by Toyota in 2009 and Ford this year, but opted to remain with Chevrolet. Any move away from Chevrolet would have put the relationship with DEI in jeopardy.

It also would have been a move away from what has been a successful package for EGR this year. Although EGR did not make the Chase For The Sprint Cup, McMurray has three wins and Juan Pablo Montoya has one.

Earnhardt Childress engines have won nine races this year – the four with EGR and five with Richard Childress Racing.

Ford was looking at adding a team as Richard Petty Motorsports likely will cut from four teams to two next season if the financially strapped organization remains in business.
