CUP: Blickensderfer To Replace Wingo As Ragan Crew Chief

Roush Fenway Racing will replace David Ragan crew chief Donnie Wingo with Drew Blickensderfer beginning with the Sprint Cup race this weekend at Dover International Speedway, a team official confirmed.

Blickensderfer, who was Sprint Cup crew chief for Matt Kenseth in 2009 and for the 2010 Daytona 500, has served as crew chief for Carl Edwards in the Nationwide Series for most of this year.

Edwards is second in the Nationwide standings but his championship hopes are slim as he is 373 points behind Brad Keselowski with eight races left in the season.

Ragan is 24th in the Cup standings and has only one top-10 finish this year. Blickensderfer will be Ragan’s third crew chief in the last year. Wingo replaced Jimmy Fennig after the 2009 season.

Ragan, who is still looking for his first Sprint Cup win, has struggled since finishing 13th in the Cup standings in 2008, his second season in the series. He finished 27th in the standings with just two top-10 finishes last year.

Blickensderfer returns to Cup after a 37-race stint in which he won the first two races (including the Daytona 500) of 2009 with Kenseth but then failed to get the No. 17 team into the 2009 Chase.

Mike Beam will take over as Edwards’ crew chief in the Nationwide Series.

“We have a really solid team in the Nationwide Series that I’ve been a part of this season as director of competition,” Beam said. “I’m ready to hit the ground running in my new role as crew chief.”
