Persistent problems with asphalt in the second turn have forced a second red-flag delay in the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway.

Earlier, workers patched a hole in the turn during a red-flag period that lasted one hour and 40 minutes. The race returned to green-flag conditions, but NASCAR stopped the event again after 36 laps.

Cars are on pit road and drivers are out of their cars – for a second time – with 39 laps remaining.

Workers are trying a new patch mixture in an attempt to resume the race. The hole is in the track’s lower groove.

Kevin Harvick and Juan Pablo Montoya are first and second during the delay.
