Maybe the search for Hendrick Motorsports’ 200th Sprint Cup victory is nearing an end.
Hendrick driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., battling a winless streak of his own, turned in the fastest speed of Friday’s Happy Hour practice for Saturday night’s Capital City 400 at Richmond International Raceway with a speed of 123.853 miles per hour.
Carl Edwards was a close second at 123.706.
Completing the top five were Landon Cassill, Jeff Gordon and Kyle Busch.
Sixth through 10th were Clint Bowyer, Michael McDowell, Greg Biffle, Joe Nemechek and Kasey Kahne.
The Hendrick team has been seeking veteran car owner Rick Hendrick’s 200th Cup win since last October.
Race qualifying is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Friday and will be televised by SPEED.
