NASCAR Sprint Cup team owner Richard Childress said Sunday he needs to have a sponsor commitment for his Richard Childress Racing No. 07 Chevrolet Impala SS by the time the season ends, or the car might not be raced next season.

Childress said the team has sponsorship for some races next season and he was impressed by the improvement of Casey Mears in recent weeks, but the team still is looking for money. The team owner also said that he will be announcing more personnel changes next week, which are expected to include moving Todd Berrier from crew chief of Mears’s No. 07 to the No. 31 of Jeff Burton.

On the news that his former driver and long-time friend Dale Earnhardt was voted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, Childress said, “Dale did a lot for people that you never knew about. He tried to help people out once he reached the point where he could. And he never forgot the people that got him to where he was at. He never forgot where he came from. He had that drive about him. He wanted to win.”

NOTES: David Reutimann, driver of the No. 00 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota is suffering from flu-like symptoms and the team has brought Dave Blaney in as a relief driver, if needed, for tonight’s NASCAR Banking 500 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

The grand marshals for the NASCAR Banking 500 will all be representing the first NASCAR Hall of Fame class, which will be inducted May 23, 2010. The grand marshals tonight will be Richard Petty and Junior Johnson, who were voted into the Hall, along with Teresa Earnhardt, representing her late husband, and NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France, representing his late father and grandfather.

Kyle Busch, Michael Waltrip, Elliott Sadler and Bill Elliott are among the drivers sporting pink paint schemes tonight in support of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which funds research of breast cancer.
