Rodney Childers will continue working his magic at Michael Waltrip Racing.

The former-driver-turned-crew-chief of the No. 55 Toyota extended his contract with MWR on Monday — and announced the news on Twitter.

“It’s been great watching everything over the last four years and to be a part of it,” Childers told FOXSports.com. “Going from zero wins to five wins has been great to see.”

Childers, 36, joined MWR in 2008. The following year he was paired with David Reutimann and together they earned the company’s first victory in the 2009 Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway and finished 16th in the standings, the organization's best finish until this season. Together the pair backed up the win with a second victory at Chicagoland Speedway in 2010.

After Reutimann parted ways with MWR at the end of last year, Childers assumed responsibility for the No. 55 Toyota team with multiple drivers – Mark Martin, Brian Vickers and team owner Michael Waltrip. Between the three racers the team has posted seven top fives, 14 top-10 finishes and four poles, by Martin. The car is currently 14th in owners points despite four engine failures this season.

“It’s been very stressful and at times overwhelming but I’m thankful for that a lot of people in the garage recognize that I do a good job,” Childers said.

“I’m also glad (the contract) is done so I can start concentrating on next year.”
