CUP: Charlotte Has 51 Entries

Half a dozen part-time teams will try for the Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway...

With no major travel costs needed for most teams this weekend, there are 51 cars entered for Saturday’s Bank of America 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

In addition to the 45 teams that have been running weekly, six part-time teams are also on the official NASCAR Sprint Cup Series entry list.

Among the part-time teams is Stavola Labonte Racing – co-owned by Terry Labonte and Billy Stavola – with Terry’s brother Bobby behind the wheel. As the most recent past champion not in one of the 35 guaranteed spots, Bobby Labonte will have access to a past champion’s provisional.

Bill Elliott, driving for the Wood Brothers, would be next in line for a past champion’s provisional if Labonte gets in on speed.

In addition to Labonte and Elliott, four other drivers competing for part-time teams are on the list: Robby Gordon (Robby Gordon Motorsports No. 07), Johnny Sauter (R3 Motorsports), Scott Riggs (Whitney Motorsports No. 81) and Brian Keselowski (K-Automotive Motorsports).

Elliott, Gordon, Sauter, Riggs and Keselowski will be among the 15 drivers competing for the final seven spots. The others are Landon Cassill (Phoenix Racing), Casey Mears (Germain Racing), Patrick Carpentier (Latitude 43 Motorsports), J.J. Yeley (Tommy Baldwin Racing), Dave Blaney (Front Row Motorsports), Michael McDowell (Whitney Motorsports), Mike Bliss (Prism Motorsports), Jeff Green (Gunselman Motorsports), Jason Leffler (Prism) and Joe Nemechek (Nemco Motorsports).

Andy Lally is entered for TRG Motorsports and Reed Sorenson remains behind the wheel of the No. 83 Toyota for Red Bull Racing.
