Carl Edwards led the way in today’s lone 90-minute practice session for the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Edwards set the fast time early on, when he ran 123.921 mph in the No. 99 Roush Fenway Racing Ford Fusion, and his speed held up for the remainder of the session

Second-fast was AJ Allmendinger, who had a best lap of 123.881 mph in the No. 22 Penske Racing Dodge. He followed by the No. 9 Richard Petty Motorsports Ford of Marcos Ambrose, which clocked in at 123.865 mph.

Then came Joey Logano’s No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, which ran 123.826 mph. Ryan Newman completed the top five in the No. 39 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet.

After being bog slow for most of the practice, Jeff Gordon picked it up at the end to clock in sixth in the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet. Completing the top 10 were Regan Smith, Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Busch.

Robby Gordon failed to get on track after engine problems developed in his Dodge.

Qualifying begins at 3:40 p.m. ET and will be televised on SPEED.
