While there were 54 entries for the season-opening Daytona 500, there are only 46 cars entered in this weekend's Auto Club 500 at Auto Club Speedway in California.

A second Tommy Baldwin Racing car driven by Johnny Sauter is the only car entered that was not among those entered in the season-opening NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event.

Sauter is one of 10 non-guaranteed drivers vying for seven spots in the field as TRG Motorsports’ Bobby Labonte can use a past champion’s provisional if he needs one.

Also entered and having to make the race based on qualifying speed are Phoenix Racing’s Aric Almirola, Germain Racing’s Max Papis, TBR’s Mike Bliss, Whitney Motorsports’ Terry Cook, Prism Motorsports’ Michael McDowell and Dave Blaney, Red Bull Racing’s Scott Speed, Nemco Motorsports’ Joe Nemechek and Keyed-Up Motorsports’ Casey Mears.

The only driver changes from the Daytona 500 were the expected moves at Front Row Motorsports. Travis Kvapil has moved from the No. 37 car to the No. 34, Kevin Conway replaces Kvapil in the No. 37 entry and David Gilliland replaces Robert Richardson in the team’s No. 38 Ford. Richardson is driving in only the restrictor-plate races for the team.

Conway was not eligible to compete at Daytona, so John Andretti drove the No. 34 car. Gilliland failed to make the Daytona 500 field driving for BAM Racing.

BAM Racing is not entered in California, with Robby Gordon carrying the team’s Warner Music sponsorship.

In addition to BAM Racing, other teams who attempted the Daytona 500 who are not entered at California are Wood Brothers Racing (Bill Elliott), Braun Racing (Reed Sorenson), Kirk Shelmerdine Racing (Todd Bodine), Stratus Racing Group (Derrike Cope), K Automotive Motorsports (Mike Wallace), Norm Benning Racing (Norm Benning), a third Michael Waltrip Racing car (Michael Waltrip), and a second Nemco car (Jeff Fuller).
