Richard Childress Racing's Clint Bowyer led Friday's lone practice session in preparation for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.

Bowyer led the field with a top lap of 189.381 mph, while Roush Fenway Racing's Greg Biffle , who is seventh in the Chase For The Sprint Cup standings, was second with a speed of 188.706 mph.

Points leader Jimmie Johnson (Hendrick Motorsports) was third, while fellow teammate and Chase contender Jeff Gordon was fourth. Rounding out the top five was Chase contender Carl Edwards (Roush Fenway Racing).

Penske Racing's Kurt Busch was sixth and the only other driver competing in the Chase to crack the top 10 on the speed charts.

Rounding out the top 10 were David Ragan (Roush Fenway Racing), Jeff Burton (Richard Childress Racing), Brad Keselowski (Penske Racing) and RCR's Kevin Harvick.

Other Chase drivers: Kasey Kahne (Richard Petty Motorsports) was 12th, Mark Martin (Hendrick Motorsports) 13th, Tony Stewart (Stewart-Haas Racing) 14th, Denny Hamlin (Joe Gibbs Racing) 19th, Ryan Newman (Stewart-Haas Racing) 21st, Juan Pablo Montoya (Earnhardt Ganassi Racing) 24th, and Brian Vickers (Red Bull Racing) 26th.

Max Papis (German Racing), Jamie McMurray (Roush Fenway Racing), Burton and Mike Bliss (Phoenix Racing) were all involved in incidents. All four drivers made contact with the wall and Burton and Bliss were forced to back-up cars.

John Andretti (Front Row Motorsports) blew an engine in the session.

Qualifying is set for today at 4:40 p.m. EST and practice continues Saturday at 9:45 a.m. EST.
Sunday's race is slated to begin at 3:15 p.m. EST and will be televised on ABC.
