Roush Fenway Racing driver Trevor Bayne remains hospitalized in the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and likely will remain out of the driver’s seat for at least another week.

Hospitalized last week for fatigue, nausea and blurred vision, Bayne missed the Nationwide Series race at Richmond last week. He likely will miss this weekend’s race at Darlington although a final decision might not be made until Thursday, a Roush Fenway Racing spokesman said Wednesday.

His replacement would be Chris Buescher, an 18-year-old Roush Fenway development driver who finished 17th at Richmond in his Nationwide debut.

Exactly how many races Bayne will miss has not been determined. The 20-year-old upset winner of the Daytona 500 is not scheduled to return to the Wood Brothers Racing Sprint Cup car until the Sprint All-Star Race later this month.

Bayne was hospitalized briefly last month for swelling and numbness from an insect or spider bite.

While the new symptoms could have been caused by the bite, Bayne posted a message on Twitter stating that he didn’t believe his problems are a result of the bite. No one has indicated what has caused the symptoms.

Roush Fenway President Steve Newmark said last Friday that he had hoped sending Bayne to get the tests was just an overreaction by the team.

But doctors need more time to treat his symptoms and/or diagnose the cause, likely forcing Bayne to miss a race for the second straight week.

Even though he has missed one race, Bayne still is seventh in the Nationwide Series standings, 45 points behind the leader.
