An alternator failure Friday dropped Robby Gordon from sixth to 10th overall in the 2010 Dakar Rally.

Gordon was leading in his Hummer during the first part of the seventh stage of the 14-stage event prior to the alternator issue. He finished 24th in Stage 7, which went from Iquique to Antofagasta in Chile. Gordon is now 4 hours, 25 minutes behind the race leader.

Saturday is a rest day, with the eighth stage running from Antofagasta to Copiapo.

“We had to wait a long time for a replacement, which cost us a lot of time,” the Sprint Cup driver/owner said. “It’s just a huge bummer. I am ready for [the] rest day so that we can reevaluate and strategize for the rest of the race. Our plan is to come on strong for the final stages and make up as much ground as possible.”
