Hendrick Motorsports has set a news conference for Wednesday to announce a new sponsor for Jeff Gordon, which is expected to be a charitable program focusing on adult hunger.

Gordon said Oct. 22 that an announcement of a new sponsor would come Wednesday, and Hendrick Motorsports says the news conference will detail a new team relationship.

Last month, Hendrick Motorsports applied to trademark the slogans “Drive For Hunger” and “Drive 4 Hunger” with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. According to the application, the use of those slogans will be used for charitable fundraising and that it will be used in participating in auto racing as well as providing advertising space on automobiles participating in stock-car events.

Sources indicated that the AARP could be involved. The AARP Foundation announced last month a new initiative to alleviate hunger among older Americans.

Gordon needs a primary sponsor for a majority of his races next year as DuPont plans to scale back its sponsorship. Both DuPont and Pepsi are expected to return to sponsor select races.
