It’s said that everything’s bigger in Texas, and that apparently extends to the field size for Sunday’s Dickies 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.

After two consecutive weeks of 44-car entry lists, a full 48 cars have signed on to try and make the field in Texas this week for the 34th of 36 races on the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule.

Among those trying to race their way into the field will be David Gilliland in a fourth Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota and Mike Skinner, who will drive a second TRG Motorsports Chevrolet.

AJ Allmendinger will be in a Ford this week for Richard Petty Motorsports.

If Jimmie Johnson wins in Texas and leads the most laps and Mark Martin finishes 36th or worse and Jeff Gordon finishes 33rd or worse, then Johnson will clinch his fourth consecutive championship by simply starting the final two races of the year.
