Forty-five cars are the preliminary entry list for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Price Chopper 400 this weekend at Kansas Speedway.

Wood Brothers Racing’s Bill Elliott won’t be guaranteed a spot in the field as Bobby Labonte will be the most recent past champion who is driving for a team not in the top 35 in the owner standings. Labonte is in the No. 71 TRG Motorsports car for Kansas and would get the past champion’s provisional if he needs it. If he gets in on speed, then Elliott would be eligible for the past champion spot in his Wood Brothers car.

Last week at Dover, there were 44 entries, including the part-time teams of Furniture Row Racing (driver Regan Smith) and Morgan-McClure Motorsports (Scott Wimmer). Neither of those two drivers is entered this weekend, but three other part-time teams are entered: Elliott, Germain Racing’s Max Papis and Hendrick Motorsports’ Brad Keselowski.

Former Chip Ganassi Racing development driver Kevin Hamlin is entered in the part-time No. 37 Front Row Motorsports car, which is usually driven by Tony Raines. Hamlin is scheduled to drive at both Kansas and Auto Club Speedway in California the following week.

Labonte will be in the TRG Motorsports car because Erik Darnell is in the No. 96 Hall of Fame Racing entry that Labonte has driven for most of the season.

With Labonte guaranteed a spot as a past champion, the nine drivers who are vying for the final seven spots are Red Bull Racing’s Scott Speed, Phoenix Racing’s Mike Bliss, Nemco Motorsports’ Joe Nemechek, Prism Motorsports’ Dave Blaney, Tommy Baldwin Racing’s Michael McDowell, Papis, Elliott, Hamlin and Keselowski.
