A Tuesday fire inside a machine shop at Joe Gibbs Racing resulted in about a dozen JGR employees receiving treatment for smoke inhalation on the grounds of the facility.
The fire, the second in a year at JGR, was described as a “small fire” by local emergency officials, and there were no serious injuries. None of the JGR employees who were treated by medical personnel on site were transported to hospitals.
The Huntersville facility is headquarters for JGR’s NASCAR operations and is the site where the Sprint Cup cars of drivers Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch and Joey Logano are built and maintained.
There was no indication Tuesday if the drivers were at the sprawling shop when the fire occurred.
In a statement released late Tuesday afternoon, the team said the fire “was quickly contained and extinguished” by firefighters. “A few of our employees received treatment on site for issues related to smoke inhalation. All employees were able to return to work within the hour to continue preparations for the 2012 NASCAR season.”
In February of last year, there was a minor fire in the JGR engine department. No one was injured.
