AUTOS: Range Rover Sport Photo Leaked

An unofficial picture of the 2014 model due for unveiling at the New York Auto Show shows the SUV at an auto shop.

In February, we saw the 2014 Range Rover in a leaked internal document sent to us by a dealer.

Over the past few weeks, the company has been teasing the new Range Rover Sport, which will debut at the New York Auto Show. But on Wednesday, Facebook community page VMax 200 gave us a sneak peek, publishing snagged a shot of the new Rover in an auto shop.

What we garnered from the automaker’s blurry teaser shot looks to be substantiated by the new picture. The front and rear end look much like the rounded Range Rover Evoque, as do its sloping rear window and black window pillars.

We like the new shape. It looks like a brawnier Evoque with squared shoulders and tough haunches. As much as we like blocky designs – see the Cherokee Classic – we understand that moving a brick through air takes fuel. Automakers know if they want better fuel mileage, a cube on wheels isn’t the way to do it.

If the Range Rover Sport follows the pattern set by the 2014 Range Rover, it will have the option of a supercharged V6 or the 5-liter V8 that it carried in the previous model year. A supercharged V8 will go in the top model.
